Montgomery College, Facilities Office, has need for a full-time Environmental Safety Program Supervisor, #3078. Work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Position is located in Rockville, MD and requires travel between campuses.

 

Job Summary:

 

Position reports directly to the Associate Vice President for College Facilities and is responsible for management of the College’s environmental and occupational safety program. Position is the primary and principle workplace health and safety expert for the College. Position ensures that the College is in compliance with Federal, State, and local mandates through inspections; planning; developing, implementing and supervising the training of College personnel; supervising the management of the College Material Safety Data Sheet program; managing the College hazardous waste program; coordinating projects and designing procedures for identifying and abating workplace safety hazards; investigating and finding resolutions to safety complaints from the College community; and preparing documents to report findings of investigations or to clarify policies.  This position is both technical and supervisory.

 

Qualifications – the following are required:

 

  • An understanding and ability in interpreting current laws and regulations of the federal, state, and county equivalents of the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in order to ensure college-wide compliance with the applicable laws, regulations and guidelines.
  • The ability to use a personal computer and MS Office applications to conduct research, prepare documentation and reports, and communicate with employees and representatives of external agencies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with a diverse workforce and student population to communicate health and safety concerns, problem solve, and build and maintain excellent relationships internally and externally.

 

 

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental science, one of the physical sciences, or a related field
  • A minimum of three years of experience in the field of environmental safety to include investigation and assessment of environmental safety issues such as indoor air quality, hazardous materials and chemicals, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, and the interpretation of relevant laws and regulations.

 

Preferences

 

  • Certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
  • Safety and/or environmental experience in a college or university environment.

Per our conversation this afternoon below is the list of qualifications for the position with the CNIC - Chief of Naval Installations Command located in the Washington D.C. area. As soon as I know the exact location I will forward that info. We have a quick turn around time, I will need the person identified and supporting paperwork for submission on Monday 12/5. This would be a position with our company, DBS Group, Inc. who is a sub-contractor to SAIC on several other projects. The position is for a three year assignment as the person currently in this position is going overseas for 3 years. This is a contract we will be bidding on so we will need to know the applicants salary and benefits requirements.

Qualifications:

Contractor should have a post-graduate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in safety, public health, engineering or other safety-related field of study and 5-years of work experience as a full-time safety professional; or a 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in a safety, physical science, engineering or other safety-related field of study from an accredited institution of higher learning and 5-years of work experience as a full-time safety professional. Contractor must also have attained certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
